Korean Air signed a firm order for 103 Boeing aircraft in Seoul on 15 September. The contract is valued at $36.2 billion, excluding $8.6 billion in engine and maintenance agreements.
The airline ordered 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737 MAX 10s and eight 777-8 Freighters. These aircraft will cover long-haul, medium-haul and cargo operations.
The 777-9s will strengthen long-haul flights. The 787-10s will operate on the busiest international routes. The 737 MAX 10s will serve the regional and medium-haul network, although their entry into service is still subject to certification.
Korean Air Cargo will also receive eight 777-8Fs. This future freighter is intended to gradually replace older aircraft and improve cargo air connections between Asia, North America and Europe.
The airline has also planned 21 spare engines. The agreement with GE Aerospace and CFM International covers maintenance for fifteen years.
