Originally intended to offer domestic flights in Norway, the airline opened its first foreign base in Warsaw in 2006 and then expanded rapidly. In 2008, Copenhagen Airport was added. In 2011, Norwegian established a hub in Helsinki. Its rapid expansion led it to issue more than 26 million air tickets in 2015. Known for its cheap flights, the airline is also known for placing the largest order in the history of European aviation in 2012: 122 Boeing 737s and 100 Airbus A320s. It was also the first to offer free Wi-Fi on board its European flights and, the following year, to offer video on demand. Norwegian was also named by Skytrax the “best low-cost airline in Europe” several years in a row. In 2015, it became the airline with the lowest fuel consumption. The airline has 6 subsidiaries, including Norwegian Air International, and 21 secondary bases across Europe, including Paris CDG Airport. In 2019, it was the third-largest low-cost airline in Europe. In 2021, it served 4 French airports (Bordeaux, Nice, Paris and Montpellier) and offered, across all its subsidiaries, 120 destinations, mainly in Europe, as well as destinations in the United States, North Africa and the Middle East.
