Bordeaux Aéroport has just reached Level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA). This new certification marks a significant development in the airport’s environmental strategy. Since 2019, Bordeaux Aéroport says it has reduced its emissions directly linked to its activities by around 30%, particularly those from its buildings and facilities.
To continue reducing these emissions, the airport plans several concrete measures. One of them concerns aircraft parked on the ground: all aircraft parking stands are now electrified. Aircraft can therefore use the electricity available at their parking stand for their needs during the stopover, instead of running their own auxiliary engines. Bordeaux Aéroport is also developing renewable electricity generation. Solar panels are being installed on some car parks and buildings to generate part of the electricity consumed directly at the airport. This initiative does not concern the airport alone. Bordeaux Aéroport also wants to involve the companies and partners based at the airport in its emissions reduction targets. A climate partnership charter has therefore been introduced, and several airport stakeholders have already committed to this initiative. By reaching Level 4 of ACA, Bordeaux Aéroport is therefore embedding its climate transition in a long-term approach, combining emissions reductions, the development of renewable energy and the mobilisation of the stakeholders who work at the airport every day.
